We Should All Be Feminists – a TEDxTalk

Not only are fans delighted that Beyonce dropped an album on us (unexpectedly) Thursday night, but feminists are also excited that she took a stand for equality once more. Her album features a song called “Flawless” and in it, Beyonce samples parts of a TEDx speech by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I think we can all agree that Beyonce deserves praise and admiration; not only is she a hard-worker, but she’s one of the very few famous women who use their power to make a difference in a positive way.  Plus she directed us — writers and feminists — to this author! I hadn’t heard of her before and I always look forward to reading material from people who support equality.

Watch the speech below. The part about marriage, wow, is she right… She’s amazing and speaks the truth!

I have chosen to no longer be apologetic for my femaleness and femininity.

–Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
