Row, Row Your Boat in Unison

  • by

During my walk today, I had the time to reflect on some things: I don’t like the way things are headed right now. I know I’m not the only one. I’m a major believer in peace and in our ability to do good. The statewide protests against police brutality have shown the best and worst of humans. It is overwhelming and I should say that I couldn’t be more proud of my fellow human rights activists.

But there seems to be so much anger still among some groups of people in our country who don’t believe blacks deserve the right to life. In trying to rationalize their point, I came up with nothing. But so much disagreement made me think of something like a group rowing boat.

Notice the unison in the rowing video?

By pushing against the water with an oar, a force is generated and it moves the boat. In real life, some things also require unity to move forward. If you pull in one direction and I pull in another, we’re going nowhere. By logical reasoning, there can be no progress.

I’m seeing friends and families being at war with other friends and families over the recent events involving a Minneapolis cop killing George Floyd, an African American man. It is kind of tragic and depressing to witness so much division, even though some choose to play blind. Even with the evidence right in front of them, there is denial. We humans are just so stubborn — I want to be right and so do you. I get it. But let it not be politics that you base your conclusions on but on logical thinking, on proven facts, and maybe just maybe (if you find it in your heart?) on what’s best for humankind.

As I’ve said before, at the end of the day, I may be dark and you all light, and we’re both right. Be a hippie or a yuppie, and it’s all right. But please  use your mind.

Life is but a moment, and hate is a serial killer.

Peace and love.
