Time Wise

Some days are worth it. Some days you make the best of every passing minute, every hour. Sunset seems to be holding back, waiting for you to run your last errand before it’s pitch black outside. Some days, you’re running on your own time. Cursing out fast cars passing by, if you must, because they’re taking over your lane or the pedestrian side. And, you even have time for a good chitchat with friends before bedtime or for one more episode of that show you just won’t give up.

But some days, it is like, BOOM! When did the sky go gray? And you wonder, where did my day go? Why did I not get more done? What is wrong with my productive game? Is my life over now because my to-do list looks almost the same as yesterday?

It’s true that some days I just don’t care, that some days I remind myself that “life is not a race” — a quote too poetic to ignore. It might be cute, but not convincing enough. Life does seem like a race at times. Or maybe I just want it that way; maybe I want to get things that I want to get out of the way done quickly. Quickly. This race is not about wanting to beat yesterday’s record, or someone else’s. This is about the reality that we have only a short time before we go bye-bye (oopsie), and whatever stamina I have built over the years I want to keep until the very end. I want to not waste a single minute of my breath. For whatever reason, I feel like I need to make something GOOD of this existence — or just to make it through another day.

Look, I don’t want to be doing my hair at 9:30 PM. I wish I had gotten that out of the way three hours ago. But that didn’t happen, so now what? Well, here I am, writing this very blog post into my voice notes, holding a hot flat iron with my right hand and a chunk of hair with my left. So, yes, it’s true, life is not a race. However, if adrenaline keeps you alive and well, then you run that marathon, my friend.

I think we should go our own pace, fast or slow, if that’s what keeps us going. But always remembering that, although life can be short, sometimes it surprises us with many more tomorrows, and you want to last for those. (This life thing is very complicated, ain’t it?)

I just wanted to write this today, that’s all. As I was here looking at the time I have left for the night, I was reminded of the grip time has on all of us. We’re always running against it, borrowing it, or giving it, but we’re never really beating it. So I’ll say, take it easy, but not too easy — at the end of the day, you have to get sh*t done because your tomorrow might need you.

Speaking of time, there’s this old meme that secretly annoys me to no end.

You have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyoncé.” Yeah? You know what else she has? A LOT of money. Me explico? I know whoever wrote that was trying to be funny — very satirical. The only reason that woman can get that much done (secret album releases, recording studio sessions, appearances, family vacations, etc.) in record time is because all those millions allow her to hire a whole darn team! She has a whole team getting sh*t off her to-do list. So don’t get it twisted and stop spreading false information!  😭

Money and time are something that we’ll always need in this modern society. You need some time to make money, and you need money to make the most of your time. It feels that way to me.

I get only so much time in a day to do everything I want to do, or in life in general…it never seems enough. It’s stressful trying not to waste it nor rush it… I want to go with it, but then it gets complicated and exhausting calculating it. It is a tricky part of life that we must use wisely. I think, time-wise, if you want to make the most of everything, you must use time wisely. Be timewise!
