Unspoken Love: Speak It Now

A thought that popped on my head the other day: isn’t it messed up that a lot of the famous artists we know today are only famous because they’re dead?

How does this always happen, you ask? Well, just look at the pattern. Whenever someone passes away, famous or not, what do we do? We rush to look at their photos, follow them on social media, watch all their films or buy all their music or paintings, if they were artists, or whatever it is they used to create.

After death?!

I recognize that I, too, have been guilty of this. The only difference is I’m now more conscious of this behavior, so I try to explore new artists and give everyone a fair chance while they’re alive, as well as actually take my time to appreciate people or the work of artists that I already love.

No doubt it is human nature. Death can be so unpredictable that most times the only thing we can cling to is the memories. We have no other way of extending that life that we just lost, so we resort to the things that would have made them happy — and that is giving them all our money. Okay, you get the point.

We try to make them happy and ease our pain after death, but what if I told you can show people how much you care while they’re still alive? That way you don’t feel as guilty once they’re gone. It’s not about not honoring your loved ones or favorite artists when they pass; it’s about showering them with that much love while they can still feel it in their heart and flesh.

It’s also about supporting living artists while they need it here and now! I have been very vocal about how sad I think it is that your friends would spend all their money to see a stranger in concert, but won’t spare a couple of bucks to support you, someone they know and “care about” in real life. (But watch how everyone rushes to bring you flowers at your funeral, proclaiming their unconditional love for you). Ouch.

All I’m saying is don’t leave all that unspoken love for later. And support LIVING artists — the dead ones don’t need it.
