Your Own Rhythm

Sit down and write even when you have nothing to whine about, they say. But it’s hard. Especially, after some time apart from your vibe, that which makes your talent shine; that which tells you how bomb you are; that which motivates and inspires you to be the brightest star, someone’s best advice. It can be hard.

Why do I always end up with rhymes? Ahh, that poetic life…

A writer’s life is all about stories, visuals, someone else’s life. Picking stories from the doctor’s visit, the grocery store, the car wash, a baseball game, the bar… One has to get involved, be social, cross oceans, and actually live life, or listen to the silence of the night just to be able to create something worth reading about. So, we do have options — they’re just not always at hand.

Productivity for a writer depends heavily on living, I believe, or at least dreaming. Being present somewhere, no matter what universe.

Sometimes words won’t come in or come out. You go through a complete block. Just sit down and write, they say, and the flow will start. So that’s what I did as exercise. And here I am…saying who knows what. It’s been, how long? Enough time. But it seems they might be right about how to write. This is all sh*t, but words, nonetheless; a good restart.

I think every creative person goes through periods of drought. But is it a good idea to chase your own art? I just don’t believe in forcing the flow, even when it proves me otherwise. Bottom line? Everybody has an opinion about it, but ultimately you follow your own rhythm, your own path.
