woman holding women's rights sign - my body my rules

Pro-life They Call Themselves

I created a blog about 20 years ago which tagline was: my hands are tied, my voice is not. It was a space I made for myself to voice out my frustrations during my early years of political and self discovery. I realized how affected I was by social injustices and human rights violations everywhere.

And though I’m not sure that I understood how important it was at the time, I wanted to be part of the movement, the voices that spoke up and tried to protect all humans’ rights.

I quickly learned that it is usually the people with the most unfortunately unfair “social status” who are marginalized and affected the most. For those people who can’t or don’t know what to do or say, I refuse to stay silent.

One day, I realized that I — that we, women — are one of those groups that certain people (emphasis on the patriarchy) want to keep holding down; a group whose rights are constantly threatened to be taken away, for no apparent acceptable reason. And, boy, was I angry. I’ve said so much about it since…

Yes — my hands may be tied, but the power of united voices has proven to conquer worlds.

Even though I’ll never get tired of voicing out my outrage, revulsion, frustration, and confusion (because what the f-ck?!), sometimes I feel like a broken record. I mean, HOW ARE WE STILL PROTESTING THIS SH’T?!

Nevertheless, I wanted to say something today about the current Roe v. Wade potential overturn, and I’ll keep it short:

Our outrage is not about just abortion rights. As I’ve stated before, no one in their right mind is “pro” abortion. It is about having your earth-given right to choose for your damn self taken away from you. Especially, when it comes to such a delicate matter.

It is our body they’re trying to rule over. LET THAT SINK IN. It is not some silly gun argument, which is soooo different, if we must go there. This is beyond any man-made law.

This is a law which goal, apparently, is to kill a woman and her baby in the process because, make no mistake, women will still try to have an abortion if they have to. But the law wants to make it so unsafe that, potentially, the mother could be at risk, too.

But, hey! “Pro-life” you call yourself? Try again.

Abortion needs to stay legal because it is not just for unwanted pregnancies. If you don’t know all the legitimate reasons why a woman should need to terminate a pregnancy, you have some serious research to do. I’d suggest starting with our biology.

But the most natural, straightforward, logical reason is this: my uterus is my business!

I am disgusted to see other women celebrating a decision that could potentially harm them, too. Where do people draw the line?! There is so much hypocrisy surrounding this topic, so many double standards, so much brainwashing, so much more at stake! It could never be the law of the land. And if ever they succeed, this law won’t survive. Plain and simple.

By the way, if you quote the bible to defend your point, you have already lost your argument.

I’ll leave this here with some lines by Melinda Gates:

Every woman should have the right to decide whether and when to have children. This is not a decision that any government should make for a woman — it is a personal, private, and often emotional choice that women must be able to make for themselves.

…When women have the power to determine their future and decide when they have children, it saves lives, promotes health, expands education, and creates prosperity.
