Flowers and Relationships

While taking care of my bouquet of roses the other day, I started thinking about the relationship between flowers and, well, relationships. Although not groundbreaking, it is a symbol worth noting and remembering whenever we find ourselves wondering what went wrong.

Like flowers, relationships are susceptible to withering. Some, you will find, quicker than others.

The thing is, when you take that extra care of your flowers — adding the chemical solution in the water to keep them fresh, changing the water every now and then (or watering them if a garden), keeping them cool, etc. —  the flowers naturally will last longer. You’re investing quality time on them and that’s not going to waste.

If, on the other hand, you wait until the flowers show some sign of deterioration to give them some love and care; if you neglect them from the start, bringing them back to life would be a miracle. Now here you are, putting in more effort under panic mode because your options now are to unsuccessfully keep trying or to just rash them, when you could’ve just kept them fresh from the beginning.

A relationship works the same way. Hence the saying, “water your flowers.”

Keeping a relationship fresh is no easy task and sometimes that’s the part that many of us precisely forget about or are too lazy to focus on —  the maintenance part.

So what I wanted to say here today with this comparison is simple: if you want it to last, take care of your garden.
