Replaceable (excerpt)

If they’re intimidated by the thorn, they don’t deserve the flower.

It’s taken a lot of tears and a self-diagnosed clinical state of denial to reach this emotionally intelligent level. I’ve come to understand that you can have a heart of gold—the biggest, softest, and kindest of them all, and genuinely believe deep within your soul that you’re one of a kind and that you deserve fairness and all the best vibes. And, after you convince yourself that everyone else around you also thinks so, someone you actually care about will remind you that, nope, you’re not all that good stuff you thought you were.

You’re replaceable. Even if your replacement doesn’t measure up to you, you’re just another mortal. But after so many stages and changes, you’ll understand, somehow, that someone out there can easily take your place.

I got too cocky. To me there is no one on this planet that could replace my ways: my love, my touch, how to make you feel like a million bucks; like you’re the only person in the room with a story to tell, like someone who needs to be taken care of. I can make you feel comfortable in your skin under any circumstance and in any environment you’re thrown in.

To me, there is no soul in the world that could make you feel higher because I’d bow to you if it means I’ll get a smile out of your misery. And even though I’ve been selfish in past relationships, I’m known for catering to people I should be letting go.

This is an excerpt from my digital book SEDUCE ME TO USE ME — a “situationship” story and personal anecdote. It’s been on Kindle, iBooks, and other digital platforms since last year! I feel like we don’t see enough real stories about this modern plague — the unsustainable one-sided love stories — because a lot of people are afraid of being vulnerable. Well, poets know no such thing.
