To Say It or Not to Say It

They say some things are better left unsaid; that silence is golden and never to say anything that doesn’t help the situation. They say a thousand things about “things you shouldn’t say,” and they have whole lists out there. They say so much about staying silent, too, and I do agree…with part of it, when said for certain reasons and at the right moment.

But is it ever the right moment when life is a constant contradiction? When “speak now or forever hold your peace” can be a life-changing decision?

In an argument, your choice of words can make you or break you. Better to remain silent when you’re angry. Do think before you speak — unless you want to spend the rest of your life regretting something you didn’t mean to say. Now, that I do believe wholeheartedly. You’re the worst version of yourself in the heat of the moment.

When it comes to speaking up your mind at any other given moment, though; when you are also a writer (or any being) whose mind is inhabited by more thoughts and words than it can hold, I think you must find a way to express yourself.

It does make me wonder sometimes: just because you have a lot to say, does it mean you have to express every waking thought? Well, who is to say you shouldn’t and who is to say you should?

The answer may be yes and no, but it depends on the circumstances. Perhaps, only those who understand what it’s like to live in their head know the importance of releasing that energy, and thus, are the only ones who can decide if, and when, they should speak.

What I think is this: timing is everything when it comes to talking under any circumstance. But when in doubt, just say what needs to be said. And, when unsure, go with your intuition. I hope you know how to read it.
